G-Dragon Cushion?! Moonshot Microfit Cushion Review.

Fans of G-Dragon or Sandara Park? This is one post that you would definitely not want to miss. Adding on to the panel of cushion reviews, I will review the cushions from Moonshot; a beauty brand under a renowned Korean famous music agency, YG Entertainment.

Moonshot has recently launched 2 new products in Sephora Singapore; the Microfit Cushion and Moonflash Cushion. Both cushions have everybody raving about it in Asia since it is endorsed by Big Bang’s G-Dragon himself, and not forgetting 2NE1’s Sandara Park. For today’s review, I will be reviewing and bringing the Microfit Cushion to the test.
Review of the Moonflash Cushion here.

Packed in a holographic box with a black sturdy plastic case, the Microfit Cushion has interesting details when it comes to its packaging. I definitely like the outlook of the packaging box. It was fun, flashy and interesting to play around with its holographic print. Been a cushion hoarder myself, this is one unqiue packaging I ever since. In fact, I think this is the first holographic packaging I seen before the New LANEIGE Cushion came out recently (Review Coming soon). However, even though I’m impressed with its box packaging, I was slightly disappointed with the cushion case. Only the logo of Moonshot is engraved with holographic printing, the rest of the pact appears simple just like your usual cushion casing; only that it is black in colour. Enclosed in the Microfit cushion comes with a pastel purple puff that feels really good to the touch. It is squishy and yet feels sturdy when it comes to the application.

(Microfit Cushion endorsed by Big Bang’s G-Dragon)

I have to be frank to say that I did not carry any high expectations for the Microfit cushion initially since it was produced by YG Entertainment. It was more of a quantity (marketing) than quality that matters, in my initial opinion. I wouldn’t deny that I bought both the Microfit and Moonflash cushion because they were endorsed by Sandara and G-Dragon themselves. To me, it seems to be more of a marketing tactics been used to attract the attention of k-beauty makeup enthusiasts and of course, not forgetting the fans of both Sandara Park and G-Dragon.

However, I was wrong. Totally.

  (texture)

In terms of its performance, I’m awestruck with how well the Microfit Cushion is able to adhere to my skin. It smooths out my uneven skin tone and blemishes to create a seamless and even skin texture with a layer of sheen on it. It was amazing to see how my pores get fill up by this cushion. Yet it doesn’t feel heavy or leave any tacky or sticky residue on my face; which is a plus point in my opinion. Personally, I do not like cushions that feel sticky to the skin especially when I’m living in a hot and humid place like Singapore. It irritates me a lot when my hair sticks to my skin. In fact, when I applied the Microfit Cushion, it felt light and fresh on my skin. Just like how you would feel when you wash your face in the morning – refreshing.

(Finish Look – not the pasta ok. haha. )

In terms of its finishing look, it settles to a beautiful velvety satin semi matte finish, which eventually feels matte but yet appears dewy; having the radiance on the exact spots that I wanted, like my cheeks and not on my whole face. I adore the radiance that the Microfit Cushion gives to me; a natural glow that comes within me and not something being applied on top of my skin, like how a highlighter would do.

(Left to Right: Moonflash Cushion , Mircofit Cushion)

The Microfit Cushion has a neutral undertone. It is neither rosy nor yellowish, thus making it suitable for all skin tones. Coverage wise, it has a medium to medium-high coverage and is buildable without appearing cakey at all. In fact, the coverage itself is pretty decent enough to blur and smooth out any imperfection that I have. The Microfit Cushion comes in 3 tones: 101 Pink Beige, 201 Vanilla Beige and 301 Natural Beige. Unlike most Korean products, which tend to be lighter in shade for their cushions, I was surprised to find that Mircofit Cushion 101 Pink Beige (lightest shade) was suitable for me. It appears that their Moonshot’ carries shades that are darker than most Korean products. For your reference, I’m an Innisfree and Sulwhasoo #23, Laneige #21 and Clio #3 BY Linen.

For this review as seen below, I’m wearing it without any primer nor loose powder for this cushion.

(Microfit Cushion: the 1st hour)

    (Microfit Cushion: the 4th hour)

(Microfit Cushion: the 8th hour, oxidizes a little )

In terms of its longevity, The Moonshot Microfit Cushion is comparable to the cushion from YSL and Clio. On me, the Microfit Cushion lasted for about an approx. 7-8 hours without touching up, which amazes me greatly. However, do note that the Microfit Cushion does oxidised and leans towards an orange or tan look at the end of the day, which may be an issue for some. The Microfit Cushion works best on all combination, normal and dry skin types. I  wouldn’t recommend the Microfit Cushion for those with oily skin. I am a combination skin type with oily T-Zone and my cheeks tend to get dry as the day goes by. Although the foundation tends to worn off on my T-Zone, it doesn’t dry up my cheeks at all, unlike the Clio Cushion.  At the end of the day, the makeup still looks presentable and does not fall/fill in and emphasis your pores at all.

Summary:

Pros and Cons

Certified for its UV Protection SPF 50+ PA+++, Whitening and Anti-Wrinkle, the Moonshot Microfit Cushion allows you to be in total control of coverage; building and blending it well without appearing cakey at all. It feels light on the skin and the compact case allows you to easily slip in it your bag for touching up without feeling bulky at all. I adore its semi-matte finish; matte to the touch but yet dewy in appearance, with just the right amount of radiance radiating out at the right spots that you would want.

Like I mentioned earlier, it might not be suitable for those with oily skin as the foundation do wear off throughout the day. Do note that it does transfer. With such an intense competition going on in the cushions’ market, it would be interesting to see more effort being put in the packaging of the Microfit Cushion Casing. Something that would capture the attention of other makeup enthusiasts whenever we bring our casing out for touch up. Do note that you have to purchase the refill separately. The Microfit Cushion is also on a pricey side as compared to other Korean brands like LANEIGE (which comes with refill).  Last but not least, although the shades are darker as compared to other Korean brands, it is still limited in terms of its shades (3 shades) as compared to the shades carried by LANEIGE.

Availability and Price:

The Moonshot Microfit Cushions are available at all Sephora Outlets in Singapore at SGD $36 (casing +cushion). Refills are sold separately at SGD$24. For International shipping, you may purchase it on the Sephora websites of your respective countries.

The Verdict:

With a longevity that is comparable to cushions from YSL and Clio, coupled with a finish that is on another level of radiance itself, the Moonshot Microfit Cushion is definitely a YAY! I do find myself picking up the cushion more frequently to use. Now, I definitely see why it is a rave in Asia. Having celebrities to endorse its products does not jeopardize the quality of its products at all. Just like its Jelly Pot eyeshadow, I’m impressed with its finish look. This is definitely a cushion worth investing.
A league on its own.

  1. I’ve used the Etude House Precious Minerals Any Cushion in shade N02 light beige but it’s just slightly too light for me. What shade of the Microfit cushion would you recommend?
